WASHINGTON – Ed Gillespie, Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), today issued the following statement recognizing the observance of Martin Luther King’s birthday:
"The Republican National Committee joins the nation in honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the most prominent civil rights leader in U.S. history, for his vision and dedication to non-violence, equal rights, and education.
During this observance, we encourage all to keep King’s dream alive. King once said, 'Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.'
From generation to generation, we recount Dr. King’s unselfish efforts of love for all mankind. May his message of mercy and compassion extend not only on the observance of his birthday but year-long."
