Alaska Governor Performs Ceremonial Signing of AGIA in Fairbanks
June 6, 2007, Fairbanks, Alaska – Alaska Governor Sarah Palin today held a ceremonial signing of the bill commemorating passage of the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act. The Governor, Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell, distinguished legislators and guests, along with members of the gasline team were present for the ceremonial signing which took place at the Fox Visitor Center, along the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.
“Today we stand at a critical juncture for the state, for the region, and for Fairbanks,” said Governor Sarah Palin. “It is a critical juncture economically and geographically. Economically, almost exactly 30 years after oil began to flow from Prudhoe Bay, we focus on the state’s next economic lifeline – a natural gas pipeline. Alaskans need access to affordable natural gas and as owners, we should have that access.”
The ceremonial signing was ceremonial in nature due to the logistics of the process. The Governor will sign the bill as soon as she receives it. It is expected to arrive in Anchorage at 9:30 p.m. today. The Governor returns to Anchorage on Thursday morning.
