Kentucky Attorney General Stumbo Negotiates $1.7 Million Dollar Reduction In Proposed Delta Natural Gas Charges
September 28, 2007 -- Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo today signed a settlement agreement with Delta Natural Gas Company which reduces a requested natural gas rate increase by approximately 30 percent. The agreement limits Delta to a general increase of $3.92 million, a decrease of more than $1.7 million from its original request of 5.64 million.
“My office will continue to protect Kentucky’s citizens by fighting unfair utility rate increases,” said Stumbo.
In addition to reducing its requested rate increase, Delta also agreed to withdraw a proposal which would have guaranteed the company a profit, regardless of operating conditions. “Utilities are entitled to a fair market, not a free lunch,” explained Stumbo. “Consumers are hit hard by big bills, and no utility is entitled to profits unless the company is run properly.”
The Public Service Commission, which must approve the settlement, will hold a hearing on the matter on October 3, 2007 at 9:00am.
Delta serves approximately 38,000 customers in 23 counties.
