U.S. Navy Reenlists with Xerox
Xerox to support Shipboard Multi-purpose Copier Program for 300,000 plus active duty personnel
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 09, 2007 -- The United States Navy has signed an estimated $93 million contract with Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX) for the onboard document needs in support of its entire fleet of 283 vessels. A long-standing customer of Xerox, the contract includes installation, custom mounting, training, supplies and dedicated service worldwide for nearly 3,000 multifunction and production devices, as well as printer software.
In addition to supplying sailors with onboard black and white and color printing technology, the Xerox Deployable Support Group includes 51 worldwide services support personnel responsible for maintaining and supporting the equipment. A Xerox employee, known as an shipboard rider, travels on all ship missions to ensure equipment runs properly for the 23 aircraft carriers and large deck amphibious ships that have onboard print shops. Additionally, another 260 surface ships and submarines are serviced by Xerox personnel when docked at ports located around the globe.
"Every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces has document demands that can emulate that of a large corporate enterprise," said Greg Jones, senior vice president, Public Sector Operations, Xerox Corporation. "Whether it's at sea or on land our goal is to provide the most up-to-date technology that makes document technology seamless for the Navy."
Xerox has also made an ongoing commitment to honor U.S. troops that goes beyond equipment with its Let's Say ThanksSM program. The Web site www.LetsSayThanks.com is a national program designed to deliver millions of cards to servicemen and women overseas with messages of support from home.
