Mitt Romney: DNC Lists Mitt Romney's Flip Flops on eBay
November 9, 2007 -- Having apparently run out of policy positions to auction off this campaign season, Mitt Romney is now calling on his supporters to join him in selling off parts of their pasts too. While reports indicate Romney may spend as much as $60 million of his own money between now and the start of the primaries and caucuses, the campaign is still looking to reverse its declining fundraising numbers.
This week, Romney's Campaign Manager Beth Myers emailed supporters asking them to help fundraise by selling their old belongings on "Mitt Market," an on-line auction site. Supporters can list their items on eBay through "Mitt Market" and designate the proceeds to Romney's campaign. As the "Mitt Market" website says, "from bicycles that the kids have outgrown to old electronics or baseball cards, your stuff may be someone else's treasure."
Since Romney himself has "outgrown" his previous positions on just about every issue in this campaign, his friends at the Democratic National Committee decided to join the fun by auctioning off Romney's past. The DNC today listed a Mitt Romney Flip Flop Kit that includes Romney's old positions on everything from gun control to immigration reform to tax cuts to gay rights to abortion on eBay. In order to avoid profiting from Romney's flip-flopping, the DNC will donate an amount equal to the winning bid to a local pet shelter in honor of embattled Romney family dog Seamus.
"It comes as no surprise that a presidential candidate who has so cravenly pandered to the right wing of his party by auctioning off his past would ask supporters to do the same," said DNC spokesman Damien LaVera. "Unless smooth talking Mitt Romney was planning on recycling those old tax-raising, pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-immigrant, pro-gay rights, and pro-campaign finance reform positions in a general election, we thought we'd auction them off for charity."
