March 19, 2008 -- Whippany, NJ – Today, Senator Robert Menendez spoke to residents in Morris County, which included seniors and disabled veterans, about the forthcoming stimulus rebate checks, which will start being sent in May. The Economic Stimulus Package, signed into law on February 13, 2008, will provide millions of Americans with rebates ranging from $300 to $1,200 to provide a financial boost to Americans and the economy. Some 3.8 New Jerseyans are expected to receive $3.2 billion in rebates.

“Many seniors and disabled veterans do not usually have to file tax returns, but must do so this year in order to receive a rebate check,” said Senator Menendez. “Today's event is a chance to spread the word so that everyone is aware of the steps they need to take to receive this benefit.”

Senator Menendez was joined by AARP State President Sy Larson who introduced the Senator and assisted in informing his membership. IRS Spokesman Gregg Semanick was also present to answer questions, as were members of Senator Menendez’s staff.

Featured in the morning’s presentation was Veteran Harry Ettlinger, who spoke on behalf of disabled veterans.

“I am pleased that our senior and veterans groups are working hard to provide assistance to those who need help filing returns. I hope this event serves as a catalyst to educate others about how they will receive a check and what they should expect,” said Senator Menendez.
