Colorado Governor Ritter Praises Recovery Act Funds For West Corridor Light Rail
May 7, 2009 -- Colorado Governor Bill Ritter today joined members of Colorado's congressional delegation in applauding the announcement of $40 million to the FastTracks' West Corridor Light Rail project from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
"This is a key investment because it supports a project that is vital to Colorado's economic recovery," Gov. Ritter said. "These funds will help create jobs and move the West Corridor Light Rail project toward a quicker completion. One of the most important ways we will regain our economic footing and lead Colorado forward is by building a modern transportation infrastructure."
The Denver-to-Golden West Corridor project is one of 12 transit initiatives nationwide that will receive $742.5 million in grants through the Recovery Act, according to an announcement made today by Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. The West Corridor line will span 12.1 miles from Denver to Lakewood and Golden and is expected to open by May 2013. Construction began last year.
The Recovery Act grants do not increase the amount of federal dollars going to the transit projects, but expedite funds already committed by the Federal Transit Administration.
