Stimulus funding will create jobs, serve as a catalyst for future investment in Kentucky

May 07, 2009 -- SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear today announced the approval of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding for the South Bullitt Waste Water Interceptor Project.

Surrounded by state and local officials and leaders in the business community, Gov. Beshear applauded the efforts of public officials and private citizens in working together to make this project a reality.

“The use of stimulus dollars in addition to the public and private investment will expedite the delivery of this important project and the much-needed jobs it will create for Kentuckians at this critical time in our economy,” said Gov. Beshear. “This project will result in an economic multiplier since supporting our local communities and the businesses will ensure stability and future long-term growth in our entire state.”

The interceptor will provide necessary infrastructure to transport waste water generated from existing and proposed developments to a municipal sanitary sewer, which is connected to a regional interceptor and then on to a regional wastewater treatment plant based in Shepherdsville, Ky. Hundreds of jobs will be created during the construction period and the businesses, schools and residents of Bullitt County will reap the benefits of this new infrastructure.

“The South Bullitt Waste Water Interceptor Project represents an investment in the future of Kentucky and one of our signature industries, Bourbon. This project is a key enabler to the economic development and job creation that can be realized through the promotion of ‘America’s Native Spirit’ along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.”

The Jim Beam® distillery, located in Clermont, Ky., is the western gateway to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and contributed funds to support the construction of the South Bullitt Waste Water Interceptor. After seeing first-hand consumer interest in crafting Bourbon and increased travel along the Bourbon Trail, Jim Beam has increased investment in Kentucky. Last September, ground was broken on a new Visitors’ Experience Center in preparation of welcoming 200,000 guests with enhancements completed by the end of 2010.

“At Jim Beam, we are investing in the future of the Bourbon industry, our community and the Commonwealth, and are pleased that our elected leaders and private citizens are embracing the critical projects that will help create jobs and promote the future of the Bourbon industry,” said Jeff Conder, vice president of the North American operations for Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. “With the support of our community leaders, we’re proud to invest in the future of Kentucky and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and look forward to welcoming more visitors to the Commonwealth.”

The South Bullitt Waste Water Interceptor is scheduled for completion in 2010.
