Senator Lieberman Announces More Than $7.5 Million for Lead Paint Removal

May 19, 2009 -- WASHINGTON - Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) last week announced the release of $7,579,126 to help eliminate dangerous lead-based paint from low-income homes and protect young children from lead poisoning in Connecticut. The funds were released by the Department of Housing and Urban Development as a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

"I am pleased that funding was made available to Connecticut to help address the serious hazard of lead-based paint," said Senator Lieberman. "It is unacceptable that homes still contain this poison on their walls, doing serious, long-term damage to families, specifically the children. This Recovery Act money will go a long way towards helping to eliminate this dangerous paint from Connecticut homes and will help ensure that our children grow up in safe home environments."

• Connecticut Children's Medical Center $875,000
• City of New London $2,004,538
• City of Norwich $1,699,588
• City of Waterbury $3,000,000
