Senators Snowe, Collins Announce $712,655 in Transportation Funding for Maine
May 22, 2009 -- Washington, D.C. -- U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins (R-Maine) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $712,655 for essential projects in Maine.
"Rail and aviation infrastructure are critical components of our transportation system," Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "Funding from the Department of Transportation will allow these recipient communities to make much-needed improvements to their facilities, thereby increasing the safety and quality of their services."
The funding will be distributed as follows:
§ $500,000 to the Federal Railroad Administration in Portland for Maine Area Rail Infrastructure Improvements- These funds will be used to replace crossties and rail, the surfacing of track, replacement of bridge ties and ballast, and the renewal of turnouts for railways in the Portland area.
§ $212,655 to the Town of Princeton – This grant will support apron expansion at Princton Municipal Airport to meet the current demands for tie down space.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) aims to improve safety, increase mobility in support of the nation’s economy, protect human and natural environment, achieve organizational excellence, and support the national security strategy.
