Senator Kirsten Gillibrand Congratulates Congressman McHugh On Nomination To Be Secretary Of The Army
June 2, 2009 -- Washington, D.C. – As President Obama plans to nominate New York Congressman John McHugh as the Secretary of the Army, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand issued the following statement praising the decision, and congratulating her friend and colleague:
“I’ve known Congressman McHugh for many years and I’ve seen his dedication to our country.
“Congressman McHugh’s commitment to public service is inspiring. For nearly 20 years, he’s represented an area that’s home to one of the nation’s proudest, bravest Army posts: Fort Drum. He’s brought outstanding representation to the families in his district for a generation and will now bring that same leadership to benefit all Army families across the country.
“As we work to chart a new direction in Iraq and Afghanistan, President Obama has selected an outstanding leader for the Army’s top civilian post. I congratulate Congressman McHugh and his family, and I look forward to continue working with him to keep America and New York families safe.”
