Sept. 15, 2009 -- Washington – Senator Evan Bayh today announced Indiana will receive more than $1.9 million in economic recovery funds to support energy efficiency and conservation programs in Hamilton, LaPorte and St. Joseph counties and the city of Carmel.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program administered by the Department of Energy, will help these communities implement initiatives that lower energy use, reduce carbon pollution and create middle-class green jobs in Indiana.

“This funding will enable these Indiana communities to make strategic investments in a wide range of energy efficiency and conservation projects, which will not only lower energy use and reduce pollution, but also create middle-class green jobs for Hoosiers,” Bayh said.

Projects eligible for funds under the program include the development of energy efficiency and conservation strategies, energy efficiency audits and retrofits, transportation programs, the creation of financial incentive programs for energy efficiency improvements, the development and implementation of advanced building codes and inspections, and installation of renewable energy technologies on municipal buildings.

The funding is part of $354 million in awards for energy efficiency and conservation projects in 22 states.
