October 10, 2009 -- JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - In a continuing effort to promote accountability and transparency for Missouri taxpayers while complying with all the requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the state today submitted its initial report to the federal government on expenditure of ARRA funds.

This report provides information on investment through September 30 of ARRA grant funds of which the state is the prime recipient. Current information on investment of ARRA grant funds administered by the state is available on the Transparency page of the Transform Missouri Initiative website at transform.mo.gov.

Missouri has used critical ARRA resources accountably and transparently while also focusing on utilizing funds in areas that will transform Missouri's economy for the 21st century by investing in human capital, modernization of infrastructure and next-generation technology.

One example of a successful Missouri program funded using ARRA grant funds is Gov. Nixon's Next-Generation Jobs Team. Through the Next-Generation Jobs Team, more than 7,000 young Missourians aged 16 to 24 years worked in summer jobs for more than 2,000 Missouri employers, many in cutting-edge and growing fields. Wages were paid with ARRA funds, while jobs team program participants developed job skills and got valuable on-the-job experience, enhancing Missouri's workforce for the future.

As ARRA grant funds awarded to Missouri proceed to flow into the state, Missouri will continue to concentrate on using these funds to create jobs and turn the economy around. Missouri will also continue to meet all requirements of ARRA and ensure that all funds are used in a manner that promotes transparency with and accountability to Missouri taxpayers.
