Sen. Lautenberg: $130 Million in New Federal Funding for Water Projects in New Jersey
Measure Would Fund Flood Damage Reduction, Water Quality Projects and Other Vital Programs
October 15, 2009 -- WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) today announced the Senate approved the FY 2010 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill. The legislation, which also includes more than $20 million for beach renourishment projects, has a total of more than $130 million for water projects throughout the state and now heads to the White House where it is expected to be signed into law.
“This measure will strengthen New Jersey’s water infrastructure, protect our communities from flooding and help reduce pollution in our waterways. These projects are critical to New Jersey’s economy and environment, and I am proud to have helped take this important step to secure them,” said Sen. Lautenberg, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
New Jersey would receive millions in new federal funds under the legislation. New Jersey projects in the bill include:
Nothern New Jersey
* $230,000 for environmental restoration and flood damage reduction of the Meadowlands in Bergen and Hudson Counties
* $224,000 for water quality and ecosystem restoration of the Hudson Raritan Estuary in Bergen and Hudson Counties
* $170,000 for water quality and ecosystem restoration for the Hudson Raritan Estuary-Lower Passaic River Restoration Feasibility study in Essex, Bergen, Passaic and Hudson Counties
* $157,000 for water quality and ecosystem restoration of the Hudson-Raritan Estuary in Hudson County
* $2,350,000 for riverbank stabilization of the Joseph G. Minish Historic Waterfront Park in Newark
* $327,000 for flood prevention of Lower Saddle River in Bergen County
* $3,896,000 for dredging and maintenance of Arthur Kill Reach in Union County
* $3,514,000 for channel maintenance in the New York Harbor
* $6,652,000 for navigation and drift removal of New York Harbor in Northern New Jersey
* $993,000 for surveillance of NY/NJ Harbor Estuary and enforcement of cases against polluters
* $143,000 for dredging and maintenance for navigation of Newark Bay and Hackensack and Passaic Rivers in Essex County
* $90,000,000 for dredging and deepening for navigation of NY and NJ Harbor in Northern New Jersey
* $5,000,000 for flood damage reduction and buyouts along the Passaic River in Morris, Passaic and Essex Counties
* $526,000 for flood prevention for the Passaic River Flood Warning System in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Somerset and Union Counties
* $90,000 for flood damage reduction along the Passaic River Main Stem
* $90,000 for flood protection along the Passaic River in the Town of Harrison
* $314,000 for flood damage reduction along Peckman River and Tributaries
* $1,571,000 to perform hydrographic surveys of completed and federally maintained New Jersey State Federal Navigation Projects within the boundaries of the New York District
* $238,000 for flood control and ecosystem restoration in the Rahway River Basin
* $100,000 for flood damage reduction of Ramapo and Mahwah Rivers in Bergen County
* $190,000 for dredging and maintenance for navigation of Raritan River to Arthur Kill Cutoff in Union County
Central New Jersey
* $779,000 for dredging and maintenance of the Delaware River in Burlington and Mercer Counties
* $500,000 for Flood Plain Delineation Maps for the Drainage Basins of the Manalapan and Matchaponix Brooks flood damage reduction and maintenance project
* $152,000 for dredging and maintenance of the Manasquan River in Monmouth County
* $238,000 for flood control and ecosystem restoration of the Rahway River Basin in Essex, Union and Middlesex Counties
* $6,613,000 for flood damage reduction in Middlesex Boro and Green Brook
* $238,000 for flood damage reduction of Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook Bay in Highlands, Monmouth County
* $22,000 for flood damage reduction of Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook Bay in Leonardo, Monmouth County
* $90,000 for flood damage reduction of Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook Bay in Union Beach, Monmouth County
* $292,000 for maintenance dredging and flood prevention of Raritan River in Middlesex County
* $380,000 for maintenance dredging for navigation of Shark River in Monmouth County
* $80,000 for maintenance dredging of Shoal Harbor and Compton Creek in Monmouth County
* $458,000 to continue a study of Shrewsbury River and Tributaries in Monmouth County to formulate a plan to reduce flooding
* $314,000 for flood damage reduction of the Raritan River Basin in South River, Middlesex County
* $152,000 for flood damage reduction of Millstone River Basin in Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Hunterdon and Somerset Counties
Southern New Jersey
* $117,000 to perform maintenance dredging of Clam Creek in Absecon Inlet in Atlantic and Ocean Counties
* $334,000 for dredging and maintenance of Barnegat Inlet in Ocean County
* $200,000 for a Delaware Estuary Salinity Monitoring study in Salem County
* $15,000 for a project condition survey for Delaware River in Camden
* $385,000 for dredging, maintenance and bank stabilization of the New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway in Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May Counties
* $100,000 for maintenance and dredging of the Salem River
Statewide
* $195,000 to be used to provide for the continued inspection of projects across New Jersey to ensure the integrity of the level of protection afforded by these projects
* $296,000 for flood damage reduction and environmental restoration of the Delaware River Basin
