Oregon Gov. on October Employment Numbers
Nov. 16, 2009 -- (Salem) – “Today’s employment report shows that Oregon’s unemployment rate is starting to level off and stabilize, which is promising news. This week we will also receive the next quarterly state revenue forecast, which will provide another snapshot about the state of Oregon’s economy.
“Today’s employment report and the forecast later this week are critical indicators for state and local governments as we continue to budget prudently and plan for a long, slow economic recovery.
“As Governor my focus remains on creating and retaining jobs, as well as helping Oregon families seeking employment manage this very difficult time. I know I have a partner in the state legislature as well as our members of Congress, who recently passed an important extension in unemployment benefits that will help thousands of Oregonians trying to put food on the table as they continue to look for work.
“This economic period continues to remain uncertain for our families and our businesses, but what is certain is that we must continue to work together across public and private lines to help those in need manage through this difficult time and to ensure Oregon is well-positioned for the long term when a full recovery occurs – which it will.”
