Job-Creating Washington State Military Construction Included in Senate Spending Bill
November 17, 2009 -- (Washington, D.C.) - Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a member of the Senate Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee, announced that the $398.8 million for military installations in Washington state passed the full Senate. The funding will be used to make improvements to a number of installations that facilitate training and care for service members and their families.
The funding is also expected to create family-wage construction jobs in communities throughout the state. The funding was included in the Fiscal Year 2010 Military Construction Appropriations bill, which passed the Senate today 100-0.
“Our state’s military installations are the backbone of our country’s defense, our communities’ economic well-being, and our service members’ training,” said Senator Murray. “This bill doesn’t just make physical improvements to our state’s bases, it invests in improving the quality of life for our service members and their families. This funding will help create jobs, get local economies moving, and ensure that Washington state remains home to some of our country’s very best military facilities and service members.”
The bill passed by the Senate today included $398.8 million for investments at Washington state military facilities:
* Fort Lewis $143.8 million
* Bangor $87.3 million
* Bremerton $136.4 million
* Fairchild $18.5 million
* Spokane $12.7 million
In her role as a member of the Military Construction Appropriations Committee, Senator Murray personally worked to include two projects that are included in the funding total above.
