Udall on Senate Health Insurance Reform Legislation
November 20, 2009 -- Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Mark Udall issued the following statement as the Senate prepares to vote on Saturday to begin debate on health insurance reform legislation, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:
"I am really encouraged that the health reform bill before us is estimated to drive down the federal deficit by $127 billion over the next 10 years, while providing health coverage to 94 percent of Americans, both of which are major accomplishments.
"I am carefully reviewing this legislation, and will certainly vote to allow debate to begin.
"Throughout what will be an intense debate on the Senate floor, I look forward to working with my colleagues to improve this package, which can transform our health care system to one that finally offers secure, stable, and affordable health care for all Colorado families.
"Finally, if we don't address the escalating cost of health care in this country, we will miss a critical opportunity to restore our economic prosperity. The link between health reform and economic recovery is very clear to me, and that is why this legislation is at the front of our agenda in the Senate.
"During our debate, it's important that all Coloradans have the opportunity to view the legislation for themselves. I've posted a copy of the health care bill on my web site at http://markudall.senate.gov, and I invite everyone to review it."
