AARP Statement on HHS Secretary Nomination
March 2, 2009 -- WASHINGTON — AARP today responded to President Barack Obama’s nomination of Governor Kathleen Sebelius to be Secretary of Health and Human Services. A statement from AARP Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond follows:
“During his first six weeks in office, President Obama has shown a commitment to solving our health care crisis. We applaud his decision to continue the march forward with his nomination of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to be Secretary of Health and Human Services.
“Through our years of working with her in Kansas, Gov. Sebelius has proven herself as a strong leader who is able to work across the aisle to get things done, and she has been an effective consumer advocate during her time as insurance commissioner. We look forward to working with the governor after her confirmation to make health care reform a reality in 2009.”
