Senator Nelson Issues Call for Unspent Stimulus Money to Boost NASA

October 8, 2009 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. - The only serving U.S. senator to have flown in space today called on President Obama to use $3 billion of unspent stimulus money to help prevent the continued shrinking of America’s space program.

Florida Democrat Bill Nelson delivered an impassioned speech on the Senate floor – coming just days before a special commission reviewing NASA and the nation’s space program is expected to deliver its final report to Obama. Vermont Nets More Than $5 Miliion In Forest Upgrades In Latest Installment Of Economic Recovery Funds

June 5, 2009 – Vermont’s Green Mountain National Forest and its surrounding communities will benefit from the next wave of economic recovery act funds coming to the state. Vermont’s Congressional Delegation – Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Congressman Peter Welch (D-Vt.) – said the U.S. Forest Service will invest $5.295 million in economic stimulus funds on projects that range from road upgrades to waterway improvements that will help conserve endangered species such as the Atlantic Salmon.    » read more »

New Jersey Governor Corzine Lauds $891 Million in State Fiscal Stabilization Funds

June 05, 2009 -- NEWARK - New Jersey Governor Jon S. Corzine today welcomed the announcement by U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan that New Jersey's State Fiscal Stabilization Fund application has been approved in the amount of $891 million, and New Jersey will be eligible to apply for another $440 million in the fall. Duncan was in New Jersey for a visit to North Star Middle School Academy's Clinton Hill campus in Newark.

Michigan Meets Recovery Act Highway Funding Deadline Three Weeks Ahead of Schedule

June 4, 2009 -- LANSING - Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm and State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle today announced that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has obligated $296.5 million of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) projects three weeks ahead of the June 29, 2009, deadline imposed by federal legislation. By meeting the federal deadline, Michigan is now eligible to receive any Recovery Act funding redistributed from other states.

"This is great news for Michigan workers and Michigan taxpayers," said Granholm. "We are rebuilding Michigan infrastructure while putting Michigan men and women back to work."    » read more »

Georgia Governor Perdue Certifies $39 Million in Stimulus Transit Funds

June 5, 2009 -- ATLANTA– Today Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue announced that he has submitted the required “1511 Certification” on transit projects around the state that will be funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“These funds will provide needed assistance to rural and urban transit systems across our state, including Park and Ride lots in Metro Atlanta for commuters to meet up and carpool or take transit,” said Governor Perdue.

Governor Perdue submitted the certification as part of a June 2 letter to US DOT Secretary Ray LaHood. In the letter, the Governor informed Secretary LaHood that more projects will be certified as the Georgia DOT and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) amend their TIPs to include additional projects.    » read more »

NY Gov. Paterson: $130 Million In Economic Recovery Funds For Clean Water Infrastructure Projects Across New York State

Projects Will Create and Renovate Wastewater Systems, Creating an Estimated 1,300 Jobs

June 4, 2009 -- New York Governor David A. Paterson today announced clean water projects selected to receive American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding. Twenty-two communities from across the State will be awarded $130 million for the construction of water treatment plants and the installation of sewer system upgrades.

The projections are based on results from the EIA’s National Energy Modeling System and include a reference case, plus numerous additional cases examining factors impacting energy markets, and complete documentation.

June 3, 2009 -- OLYMPIA – Washington Governor Chris Gregoire today announced that the Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development (CTED) was awarded $22.4 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to administer Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants across Washington.
