Readout of President Obama’s call with Lithuanian President Adamkus
June 24, 2009 -- The President spoke with President Adamkus on Tuesday morning, June 23. The two Presidents discussed a range of issues of common concern, including NATO issues and our shared commitment to collective defense.
President Obama expressed appreciation to President Adamkus for Lithuania’s important contributions to alliance operations and affirmed the commitment of the United States to Lithuania’s security.
The President also updated President Adamkus on our plans for the upcoming July Summit in Moscow between President Obama and President Medvedev.

US Denies Talking to Lithuania on Hosting Missile Defense Site
17 June 2008 -- U.S. officials say there are no talks with Lithuania about hosting a missile defense site, even though talks with Poland's new government have been moving more slowly than the United States would like. But the Pentagon spokesman says time is running out on the Bush administration and officials might be forced to move to what he calls "a backup option."
The Pentagon and State Department spokesmen are disputing a statement attributed to Poland's chief negotiator (Witold Waszczykowski) by the Reuters News Service. The report says the United States has opened a parallel set of talks with Lithuania in case the effort to negotiate the placement of missile interceptors in Poland fails. » read more »
DHS Signs Visa Waiver Program Agreements with Slovakia, Hungary and Lithuania
March 17, 2008 -- U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Michael Chertoff signed today Visa Waiver Program (VWP) Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with Slovak Minister of the Interior Robert Kaliňák, Hungarian Ambassador Ferenc Somogyi and Lithuanian Ambassador Audrius Brūzga. The security enhancements outlined in the agreements put all three countries on track for visa-free travel to the U.S., and potential designation as VWP members later this year. » read more »
