Kentucky SOS Grayson Announces Important Reminders for Voters about the Presidential Primary
March 27, 2008 -- (Frankfort, KY) With many Presidential campaigns’ attention turning to Kentucky, Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson announced a number of reminders today for voters in Kentucky so that they can be prepared for the May 20th election. In particular, he reminded Kentuckians about a number of voter registration issues that citizens may encounter.

U.S. EPA Offers $3.6 Million in Grants for Innovative Diesel Emissions Reduction Projects
Atlanta, Ga., March 26, 2008 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) - Region 4, as part of the Southeast Diesel Collaborative, today announced the availability of approximately $3.6 Million in grants to fund projects within the Southeast to demonstrate effective emission control technologies and strategies, methods or approaches to reducing diesel emissions. EPA expects to fund between five and ten grants ranging from $250,000 and $750,000. However, EPA reserves the option to fund a project at an amount lower than $250,000 if the proposed project involves retrofitting or upgrading an applicant’s entire fleet. » read more »
Kentucky Governor Beshear Announces Homeland Security Grant
March 19, 2008 -- PADUCAH, Ky. – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear today announced a $40,000 Kentucky Office of Homeland Security grant to be awarded to McCracken County Fiscal Court. Part of the funds will be used for Mobile Data Computers (MDCs) for the Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office. MDCs allow officers to receive and transmit data while in their assigned vehicle, as well as compose their reports electronically.
“Time is of the essence when it comes to emergency preparedness,” said Gov. Beshear. “This grant will allow McCracken County officers to respond more quickly and efficiently to better serve and protect the community.” » read more »

March 14, 2008 -- (Frankfort, KY) -- The Kentucky House of Representatives voted today to allow early voting in Kentucky, a voting procedure backed by Secretary of State Trey Grayson that allows voters to vote absentee ballots without having an excuse as currently required in the Commonwealth. Kentucky’s January Jobless Rate Falls To 5.2 Percent
March 05, 2008 -- FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 5.3 percent in December 2007 to 5.2 percent in January 2008, according to the Office of Employment and Training (OET), an agency of the Kentucky Education Cabinet. January 2007’s jobless rate was 5.7 percent.
The U.S. seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell from 5 percent in December 2007 to 4.9 percent in January 2008, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. » read more »

Widespread Flu Activity Continues Across Kentucky
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Mar. 4, 2008) – Kentucky’s influenza (flu) activity continues to be classified as “widespread” for the fifth consecutive week, the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) announced today.
The “widespread” classification indicates the highest level of flu activity, with 722 state laboratory-confirmed flu cases in all regions of the state. Last week, 49 of the 50 U.S. states also reported widespread influenza activity. » read more »
