May 09, 2008 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Spc. Alex D. Gonzalez, 21, of Mission, Texas, died May 6 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered small arms fire and a rocket-propelled grenade attack.
He was assigned to the 43rd Combat Engineer Company, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.
Jenna Bush Marries GOP Scion at Private Texas Ceremony
11 May 2008 -- Jenna Bush - the 26-year-old daughter of President and Mrs. Bush - was married Saturday night in a small, private affair at her family's ranch in Crawford, Texas.
The bride and her husband, 30-year-old Henry Hager (son of the head of the Republican Party in Virginia) were married outdoors at twilight in front of a cross and altar built for the event from local limestone. About 200 guests attended.
Speaking to reporters later, President Bush called the wedding "spectacular," saying the vows were exchanged just as the sun was setting. He added, "we're mighty blessed."
The person who performed the wedding, Reverend Kirbyjon Caldwell, is a Houston minister and longtime Bush advisor, although he has endorsed Democrat Barack Obama in this year's presidential campaign. » read more »

April 22, 2008 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a sailor who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Airman Apprentice Adrian M. Campos, 22, of El Paso, Texas, was found dead in Dubai on April 21 due to a non-combat related incident.
He was assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Support Squadron 22, which was attached to the USNS Arctic.
The incident is under investigation.

Texas Governor Perry Announces TEF Investment in Solar Power Company
HelioVolt to create 160 high-wage jobs in Central Texas
Apr. 15, 2008 -- AUSTIN – Texas Governor Rick Perry today announced the state will invest $1 million through the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) in HelioVolt Corp. of Austin for the construction of a 125,000 square foot manufacturing facility and development space to test and produce the company’s thin-film solar power cells, which convert sunlight into electricity. The deal will create nearly 160 jobs and $62 million in capital investment.
