Senator Feingold Backs Bill Making “Do Not Call” Registration Permanent

February 13, 2008 -- Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Russ Feingold is backing legislation to ensure that a person who registers with a “do not call” registry only has to do so once. Under the original law, names on “do not call” lists are automatically removed after five years. Feingold is cosponsoring legislation by Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) that would remove the automatic expiration. Idaho Attorney General Stops Telemarketer from Soliciting in Idaho

February 13, 2008 -- (Boise) – United Publishers of America, Inc., a telemarketer from Atlanta, Georgia, can no longer make telephone solicitations to Idahoans as part of a settlement agreement, Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden announced today. The settlement resolves allegations that the company’s telephone solicitations violated the Idaho Telephone Solicitations Act and the Idaho Consumer Protection Act.    » read more »

Chairman Feinstein, Senator Specter Introduce Measure to Regulate Robocalls

February 12, 2008 -- Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) today introduced legislation to regulate robocalls.

The measure introduced by Feinstein and Specter would not ban robocalls, but instead places sensible restrictions on how and when the calls can be made – including limiting the hours within which calls can be made, limiting the number of calls that can be made to each household, and requiring callers to identify themselves at the beginning of the call.    » read more »

Connecticut Governor Rell Says “No” to Billboards on State Land

February 9, 2008 -- Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that she has submitted legislation directing that no new contracts for billboards on state-owned property be allowed and that existing billboard contracts not be renewed when they expire.

To lessen distraction on state roadways, the governor’s bill would also allow the state to stop issuing permits after June 1 for the erection of any outdoor advertising structure whose message periodically changes by electronic means.    » read more »

January 24, 2008 -- Bolivar, Mo. — Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon today obtained a consent judgment against a San Francisco company that gave false information to Missourians in telemarketing calls. The order signed by St. Louis City Circuit Judge John Garvey was issued against Telelytics (doing business as Debt Solutions) of San Francisco, its owner Scott Kaplan and four other defendants, and requires Telelytics and Kaplan to pay $152,000 to the state and stop calling consumers on the state No Call list.    » read more »
