"Alberto Gonzales was never the right man for this job.

He lacked independence, he lacked judgment, and he lacked the spine to say no to Karl Rove.

Congress must get to the bottom of this mess and follow the facts where they lead, into the White House."

27 August 2007 -- Bush administration officials say U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales will announce his resignation Monday.

The resignation comes after opposition Democrats and some Republicans have repeatedly called for Gonzales to step down over the firings last year of eight federal prosecutors.

Many lawmakers believe the firings were politically motivated.

President Bush has supported Gonzales throughout the controversy.

August 14, 2007 -- Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) has received a letter from the Department of Justice in response to her questioning of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales during a July 24, 2007, Judiciary Committee oversight hearing.

LOS ANGELES, July 26, 2007 -- In an effort to bolster personal privacy and intellectual property rights, California Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced that District Attorneys in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego will begin receiving funds for the fight against identity theft violations.
