We are not going to waste taxpayer money with a costly overtime or have a state government shutdown, especially in this economy. Georgia Governor Perdue Signs $18.6 Billion Fiscal Year 2010 Budget
May 13, 2009 -- ATLANTA – Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue today announced that House Bill 119, the state’s FY 2010 budget, has been signed into law. The FY10 budget year begins July 1, 2009.
“Cutting the budget has forced a number of difficult decisions, but we have managed the state in a thoughtful, conservative way to ensure Georgians are receiving value for their tax dollars,” said Governor Perdue. “We have maintained triple-a bond ratings, saving the state tens of millions of dollars, and funded our top priorities to ensure the basic responsibilities of state government are being met.” » read more »

Alabama Governor Riley Sends General Fund Budget Back with Changes
Suggestions include restoring cuts to prisons, making full funding of earmarks contingent on money being available
May 14, 2009 -- MONTGOMERY - Alabama Governor Bob Riley on Thursday sent the Fiscal Year 2010 General Fund budget back to the Legislature with changes to restore some funding for the Department of Corrections and reduce funding for earmarks inserted by legislators.
The Governor’s proposed changes would restore $4.2 million the Legislature cut from the already cash-strapped Department of Corrections. Governor Riley’s proposed changes would also make half of the funding legislators earmarked for festivals or other projects in their districts contingent on the money being available. » read more »
Washington Governor Gregoire Signs Historic Transportation Budget
May 13, 2009 -- TACOMA – Washington Governor Chris Gregoire today signed the $7.5 billion transportation budget for the 2009-2011 biennium, which includes the largest two-year construction budget ever for the Washington State Department of Transportation. Gregoire noted that Legislative budget writers estimate the projects approved in this bill are expected to support or create 49,000 jobs.
“This budget couldn’t have come at a better time,” Gregoire said. “Not only will it greatly improve our transportation system, the projects I’m signing off on will ensure regular employment for tens of thousands of Washingtonians. Missouri Gov. Nixon Signs FY 2009 Supplemental Appropriations Bill To Fund Next-Generation Jobs Team, Recovery Act Initiatives
May 13, 2009 -- JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri Governor Jay Nixon signed House Bill 15 into law. This bill provides supplemental appropriations to several state agencies, departments and programs for Fiscal Year 2009 through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
One of the key items in HB 15 is an appropriation of $30.9 million for employment and job-training programs for low-income youth and displaced workers. A portion of this appropriation will fund Gov. Nixon's Next-Generation Jobs Team, a summer employment program that will connect thousands of Missouri youth with internships and work experiences at high-tech, cutting-edge businesses beginning this month. » read more »
