Arkansas Governor Beebe Announces Need Based Grants For College

Aug 28, 2007 -- LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe today announced that Arkansas high-school graduates with financial need can now receive up to $1,000 per year to help pay for college under a new grant program.

The GO! Opportunities Grant is the first state-funded college grant program in Arkansas based solely on financial needs. Qualifying freshmen who are full-time students can receive $1,000 a year, and part-time students can receive $500 a year. Consumer Alert: Increase in College Dorm Fires Prompts Officials to Issue Warning

August 21, 2007 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. - As students go off to college and leave the comforts of home, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning about the dangers of fires in college housing such as dormitories, fraternities, sororities and barracks. According to National Fire Protection Association data, the estimated number of fires in campus housing has risen dramatically in recent years, from a low of 1,800 fires in 1998 to 3,300 fires in 2005.
