More than 1,000 Feared Dead From Bangladesh Cyclone

16 November 2007 -- A powerful cyclone has battered Bangladesh, causing the evacuation of hundreds of thousands. Local media reports say as many as 1,100 people were killed. As Anjana Pasricha reports from New Delhi, officials say advance preparation saved many lives, in a country accustomed to natural disasters.

Powerful Cyclone Lashes Bangladeshi Coast

15 November 2007 -- A powerful cyclone that slammed into Bangladesh's southern coast Thursday is slowly making its way across the country, after leveling thousands of houses and forcing more than 600,000 people to evacuate.

Gale-force winds of up to 240 kilometers per hour caused storm surges that inundated low-lying areas that are home to poor villagers and fishermen. Power and telephone links in the affected areas have been largely cut and coastal areas plunged into darkness.

Pakistan: Deadly Cyclone Hits Southern Pakistan

26 June 2007 -- A second deadly storm swept through Southern Pakistan Tuesday just days after heavy rains and floods killed more than 200 people in the region. Tens of thousands of people are being evacuated throughout southern Pakistan.

Cyclone Yemyin made landfall Tuesday afternoon, lashing Pakistan's southern coast with heavy rain and gale force winds.

Officials say several boats have already been sunk with up to 20 others feared missing.

Pakistan's military helped evacuate thousands of families in the southern province o f Baluchistan.    » read more »
