Cable Hope Fund Completes $20,000 in Donations to Agencies Providing Wildfire Disaster Relief in Southern California

1/28/2008, WASHINGTON , D.C. – The Cable Hope Fund, the non-profit foundation created to provide cable industry support for relief to victims of natural disasters, has donated $20,000 to the San Diego Food Bank and Santa Clarita Valley Disaster Coalition to aid those affected by the fall 2007 wildfires in southern California. Indiana Governor Delivers State Assistance Funds To City Of Nappanee

January 24, 2008 -- Oklahoma City -- Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry today filed a formal appeal on behalf of Oklahoma ice storm victims, asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency to reverse its recent decision denying individual assistance to those hard hit by last month’s historic winter weather.

Indiana Governor Requests Federal Assistance For Northern Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (January 23, 2008) - Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels took action today to request assistance for Hoosiers in northern Indiana affected by severe flooding that began January 7.

In compliance with federal regulations and Indiana Code, Executive Order 08-03 was issued to declare a disaster emergency in northern Indiana. In addition, the governor sent a letter to President George W. January 15, 2008 -- Oklahoma City -- Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry said today he is deeply disappointed and frustrated that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied Oklahoma’s request for individual assistance for people hit hard by last month’s deadly ice storm.

The Governor said the state will appeal the decision.

“I don’t understand how FEMA could assess the extensive damages from that ice storm and not conclude the obvious,” he said.    » read more »

World Bank Provides $247 million in Cyclone and Floods Assistance to Bangladesh

WASHINGTON, January 10, 2008 — The World Bank today approved IDA financing totaling US$247 million to help Bangladesh recover from the dual shocks of the August flooding and November cyclone, which caused significant loss of life and enormous social, human, and economic costs. Of this total, US$170 million takes the form of additional credits, and US$52 million consists of reallocation of funds within ongoing projects toward flood restoration. Another US$25 million is being made available for cyclone recovery through existing projects.    » read more »

Washington Storm Victims To Get A Break On College Tuition

December 19, 2007 -- OLYMPIA – The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges today voted to give storm victims a break on college tuition at Centralia College, Grays Harbor College, Olympic College and South Puget Sound Community College.
