Target to Drive Energy Cost Reductions in Federal Operations, Creating Clean Energy Jobs
January 29, 2010 -- WASHINGTON, DC – President Barack Obama today announced that the Federal Government will reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution by 28 percent by 2020. Reducing and reporting GHG pollution, as called for in Executive Order 13514 on Federal Sustainability, will ensure that the Federal Government leads by example in building the clean energy economy.
Actions taken under this Executive Order will spur clean energy investments that create new private-sector jobs, drive long-term savings, build local market capacity, and foster innovation and entrepreneurship in clean energy industries. » read more »
Iowa Gov. Executive Order Enacting Efficiency Measures
Order to implement over $700 million in potential savings over 5 years
December 16, 2009 -- DES MOINES – Iowa Governor Chet Culver announced at today’s AP Pre-Legislative Seminar that he signed Executive Order 20, which will enact the Executive Branch cost-saving recommendations in the Iowa Efficiency Review. The savings enacted have the potential to save the state over $700 million over five years, and fall under his authority as Governor.
Governor Culver commissioned the review to identify potential cost savings through efficiency gains. The Executive Order will implement 40 of the recommendations. Other measures included in the report will require legislative action, and some recommendations are under further review. » read more »
NM Gov. Richardson Signs Climate Change Executive Order
December 7, 2009 -- SANTA FE - New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson signed an executive order today that directs new emission reduction strategies to address climate change in New Mexico.
Today’s order builds on actions taken pursuant to Executive Order 2006-069 “New Mexico Climate Change Action,” in which the Governor directed state agencies to follow many of the bold recommendations of the Climate Change Advisory Group. The Group produced a plan in December 2006 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the equivalent of 267 million metric tons and create a projected $2 billion net economic savings for New Mexico’s economy. » read more »

White House Notice: Continuation Of The National Emergency With Respect To The Actions Of The Government Of Syria
May 8, 2009 -- On May 11, 2004, pursuant to his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, 50 U.S.C. 1701-1706, and the Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2003, Public Law 108-175, the President issued Executive Order 13338, in which he declared a national emergency with respect to the actions of the Government of Syria.
To deal with this national emergency, Executive Order 13338 authorized the blocking of property of certain persons and prohibited the exportation or re-exportation of certain goods to Syria. On April 25, 2006, and February 13, 2008, the President issued Executive Order 13399 and Executive Order 13460, respectively, to take additional steps with respect to this national emergency. » read more »

The White House Council on Women and Girls will be chaired by Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, with Director of Public Liaison Tina Tchen serving as Executive Director, and will made up of Cabinet Secretaries and other top White House staff. The mission of the Council will be to provide a coordinated federal response to the challenges confronted by women and girls and to ensure that all Cabinet and Cabinet-level agencies consider how their policies and programs impact women and families.
