Nevada Capitol Flag Will Fly At Half-Staff To Honor Those Killed At United States Army Base

November 6, 2009 -- Carson City - Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons has ordered the flag atop the Capitol in Carson City, the flag in front of the Grant Sawyer Building in Las Vegas and the flags at other state buildings to be flown at half-staff beginning Friday November 6, 2009 through Wednesday November 11, 2009 (Veterans Day) to honor the Americans killed in the attack at Fort Hood Army Base on November 5, 2009.

“This is a terrible tragedy for the friends and family of those killed or hurt during this crime,” Governor Gibbons said, “All Nevadans should remember the victims in our thoughts and prayers.”

Maine Governor Orders Flags Flown at Half-Staff from Nov. 6-11, 2009

November 6, 2009 -- AUGUSTA – Maine Governor John E. Baldacci today ordered the U.S. and the State of Maine flags flown at half-staff from now until sundown on Tuesday, Nov. 10, in memory of the victims of Thursday’s shootings at Fort Hood, Texas.

The order is in accordance with an announcement by President Obama that U.S. flags be flown at half-staff during the same time period.

“Maine joins the entire nation in mourning the loss of life at Fort Hood,” Governor Baldacci said. “This is a terrible tragedy and our hearts go out to the families of all those who were killed or wounded.”

In addition, Governor Baldacci has ordered that the U.S. and State of Maine flags be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in honor of U.S. Marine Major Samuel Leigh.    » read more »

Kentucky Governor Beshear Orders Flags To Half-Staff In Honor Of Fort Hood Victims

November 06, 2009 -- FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff until sundown on Nov. 10 in honor of the victims of yesterday’s tragic incident at Fort Hood.

This order follows the proclamation from President Barack Obama earlier today ordering the flag of the United States to be flown at half-staff at the White House and other federal buildings until sundown on Nov. 10.

Iowa Governor Culver Orders Flags Lowered to honor Fort Hood shooting victims

State and U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff

November 06, 2009 -- DES MOINES – Iowa Governor Chet Culver has signed a proclamation ordering that Iowa and United States flags are to be flown at half-staff to honor the victims of yesterday’s shootings at the Fort Hood Army base in Texas. The flags will be lowered through Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009.

This order is in addition to today’s proclamation by President Barack Obama ordering that all United States flags shall be lowered through Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009. The President’s order applies to federal property and embassies. Governor Culver’s order applies to state-owned property.

November 6, 2009 -- Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell today ordered U.S. and State of Connecticut flags flown at half-staff until sundown on Tuesday, November 10, in memory of the victims of Thursday’s shootings at Fort Hood.

The order follows the announcement by President Obama that U.S. flags are to be flown at half-staff for the same period.

11/06/2009 -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement regarding the Fort Hood Shootings:

“Maria and I were deeply saddened to learn of this absolutely senseless tragedy. On behalf of all Californians, we join the nation in sending our thoughts and prayers to all of the Fort Hood shooting victims and their loved ones.”

In accordance with the President’s order, Governor Schwarzenegger has ordered the flags at all state buildings to be flown at half-staff in remembrance of the victims of the Fort Hood shootings until Veterans Day.

West Virginia Governor Orders State And U.S. Flags To Be Lowered In Observance Of Memorial Day

May 22, 2009 -- CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Following a federal proclamation issued by President Barack Obama on May 22, West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin today issued a proclamation ordering all state flags, along with all United States flags, be displayed at half staff from dawn through noon Monday, May 25, 2009, in recognition of Memorial Day.

The governor also asked all West Virginians who have U.S. and state flags at their residence, to display the flags at half staff from dawn until noon on Monday. 01/28/2009 -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement regarding the death of Private Grant A. Cotting of Corona:

“Private Grant Cotting was a courageous soldier who dedicated his life to serving his fellow Americans and protecting our country’s freedom. His sacrifice is an inspiration to us all and his bravery will forever be remembered. Maria and I join all Californians in offering our thoughts and prayers to Grant’s family and friends as they mourn this terrible loss.”

Cotting, 19, died January 24 in Kut, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. Cotting was assigned to the 515th Sapper Company, 5th Engineer Battalion, 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, U.S. Army, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.    » read more »

New York Governor Paterson Directs Flags To Be Flown At Half-Staff

August 13, 2008 -- New York Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on state government buildings across New York be flown at half-staff on Friday, August 15, 2008, in honor of New York City resident Sergeant Jose Ulloa, who died August 9, 2008 in Baghdad, Iraq.

Sergeant Ulloa was a member of the 515th Transportation Company, 28th Transportation Battalion, based in Mannheim, Germany.

“It is with deep regret that we acknowledge and mourn the death of Sergeant Ulloa,” said Governor Paterson. “On behalf of all New Yorkers I want to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of Sergeant Ulloa.
