Google and Guggenheim Museum Launch Design It: Shelter Competition Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright

June 8, 2009 -- Today, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Google are kicking-off the Design It: Shelter Competition, a global competition that will challenge users to design a simple shelter in 3D with Google SketchUp, give it a geographic location using Google Earth, and share it by uploading to the Google 3D Warehouse.

The summer-long competition, which begins on Frank Lloyd Wright's birthday and will conclude on the Guggenheim Museum's 50th anniversary, is inspired by the work of architecture students at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and a recent exhibition of that work at the Guggenheim called 'Learning by Doing'.    » read more »

Feb. 02, 2009 -- MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. -- NASA and Google announced Monday the release of a new Mars mode in Google Earth that brings to everyone's desktop a high-resolution, three-dimensional view of the Red Planet.

Besides providing a rich, immersive 3D view of Mars that will aid public understanding of Mars science, the new mode, Google Mars 3D, also gives researchers a platform for sharing data similar to what Google Earth provides for Earth scientists.

The mode enables users to fly virtually through enormous canyons and scale huge mountains on Mars that are much larger than any found on Earth. Users also can explore the Red Planet through the eyes of the Mars rovers and other Mars missions, providing a unique perspective of the entire planet.    » read more »

Michigan joins computing industry leaders in green initiative
