Novartis Receives Swiss Approval for Celtura® Influenza A(H1N1) Vaccine
Swissmedic approval allows Novartis to begin shipments of Celtura to Switzerland, providing supplies of A(H1N1) vaccine immediately
Basel, November 13, 2009 - Novartis announced today that Celtura®, the company's adjuvanted cell culture-based Influenza A(H1N1) 2009 monovalent vaccine, has received approval in Switzerland from Swissmedic, the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products.
This is the second marketing approval for the cell-culture based A(H1N1) pandemic vaccine in Europe. Celtura was approved in Germany earlier in November 2009. The company also has submitted a registration for Celtura in Japan, and will seek approval in a number of other countries. » read more »
Genzyme Issues Letters to U.S. Healthcare Providers on Labeling Recommendations

Grijalva Ready to Fight Triggers, Opt-Out in Senate Health Bill
November 12, 2009 -- Washington, DC -- Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva today announced his determination to fight against any upcoming health care legislation that further damages an already weakened public health insurance option.
Grijalva said that as the Senate takes up a final reform bill, a public plan should be offered without conditions to Americans in every state similar to the version approved in the House on Saturday.

Nov. 11, 2009 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. - Medicare should deny reimbursement for a medical device for depression that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved despite unconvincing test results, Public Citizen said today in a letter sent to Medicare officials.
“The scant evidence presented for approval of this device does not come close to matching the type of data typically required for approval of anti-depressant drugs” said Dr. Peter Lurie, deputy director of Public Citizen’s Health Research Group. “Medicare should not approve coverage of this unproven device because it could divert patients from more effective therapies.” » read more »
