Wells Fargo Nearly Doubles Use of Federal Home Affordable Modifications

62,989 Home Affordable Modifications done under U.S. program through Sept. 30; total of 354,994 trial and completed modifications done in 2009

DES MOINES, Iowa — October 8, 2009 -- Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) said today that it has done 62,989 trial and completed Home Affordable Modifications through Sept. 30; nearly double what the U.S. Treasury reported last month. Also, using its own programs, Wells Fargo has done 292,005 trial and completed home loan modifications.

This brings the total number of modifications Wells Fargo has done this year to 354,994; a 25 percent increase over last month. In addition, the company has refinanced about 987,000 mortgage loans, thereby assisting more than 1.3 million households this year with mortgage payment relief.    » read more »

Rep. Rahall Works for First-time Homebuyer Tax Credit Act of 2009

10/08/09 -- U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (W.Va.) is working to pass the Home Buyer Tax Credit Act of 2009 (H.R. 1245) which aims to stimulate the economy by saving new homeowners money and helping increase home sales in local communities by providing tax credits to new homebuyers.

“Growing home buying grows the economy. This legislation is a no brainer. The fastest avenue out of this tough economy is homebuilding and home buying,” said Rahall. “Before the recession, building new homes accounted for 16% of our gross national product and with some 3000 components in a new home most sectors of our economy benefit every time a home is built and sold. October 5, 2009 -- NEW BRUNSWICK - New Jersey Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced that solar energy installations in New Jersey increased ten-fold since 2006. The state now has 100 megawatts (MW) of solar energy installed, which is enough to supply the electricity needs for more than 15,000 New Jersey homes.
