Vermont’s Spring Turkey Hunting Starts Soon

April 18, 2008 -- WATERBURY, VT— Vermont offers some of the best turkey hunting in New England according to the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department. Vermont hunters have established new spring turkey harvest records in seven of the last ten years. In 2007, Hunters took a record 5,024 turkeys in both the youth weekend and regular May 1-31 seasons.

Maine Governor Baldacci Signs Bill to Maintain Land Reserved for Hunting

April 16, 2008 -- AUGUSTA – Maine Governor John E. Baldacci today signed LD 648, An Act To Maintain the Amount of State Land That Is Open for Hunting. The bill ensures that the number of total acres of land open to hunting on public reserved lands and lands owned and managed by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife does not fall below the acreage available for hunting as of Jan. 1, 2008.

Preliminary Numbers Reveal Good Vermont Deer Season Results

January 29, 2008 -- WATERBURY, VT – Vermont deer hunters had a very good season according to preliminary numbers released by the Fish & Wildlife Department.

CPSC: Hunting Tree Stand Manufacturer Agrees To Pay $420,000 Civil Penalty

January 10, 2008 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today that a Wisconsin-based tree stand manufacturer has agreed to pay (pdf) the government a $420,000 civil penalty. The penalty settles a government lawsuit alleging that Ardisam Inc, of Cumberland, Wis., failed to immediately report to the CPSC serious injuries to hunters with its Big Foot and Lite Foot series hunting tree stands. In July 2004, 78,000 of these tree stands were recalled by the company.    » read more »

Londonderry Man Wins Vermont's Lifetime Hunting and Fishing License Lottery

January 09, 2008 -- WATERBURY, VT -- A 58-year old sportsman is the lucky winner of a Vermont lifetime hunting and fishing license.

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department held its 15th annual License of a “Lifetime Lottery” at the December 19 meeting of the Fish & Wildlife Board in Montpelier. A lifetime hunting and fishing license is awarded to one person per year.

Michigan DNR Announces 2007 Firearm Deer Season Harvest Estimates

Dec. 6, 2007 -- Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) wildlife officials today announced preliminary harvest estimates for the 2007 Michigan firearm deer season.

The early estimate indicates approximately 249,000 deer were harvested. An estimated 63 percent were antlered and 37 percent were antlerless.    » read more »
