Expedite Mine Permits Issuance

November 03, 2009 -- FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear today announced that he has approved an increase in the number of mine inspectors and the number of mining permit reviewers in the Energy and Environment Cabinet. Speaking with miners and local officials at three stops in eastern Kentucky today, the Governor said making sure Kentucky coal miners are safe must be a priority.

“The addition of 15 mine inspectors in the Office of Mine Safety and Licensing will not only help with our efforts to complete the number of required inspections, but will also enhance our nationally recognized mine rescue team capabilities and response,” said Gov. Beshear.    » read more »

October 12, 2009 -- FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear said today that the federal stimulus program is doing exactly what it is intended to do—pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into Kentucky’s economy and delivering on its promise of maintaining jobs and programs in education and health care.

The Governor released details today of how stimulus dollars, part of the American Recovery and Re-Investment Act of 2009, have been utilized and also announced that his administration had met the first round of federal reporting requirements. U.S. Department of Energy announces more than $10 million in energy efficiency grants for Kentucky

Money to be used to help boost state’s economy

September 15, 2009 -- FRANKFORT, Ky. – Energy efficiency and increased use of renewable energy sources in Kentucky got a substantial boost this week from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The Commonwealth has been awarded $10,427,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program.

Funds from the program will support projects that create jobs, support energy efficiency and conservation in working toward the goals of achieving Kentucky’s comprehensive energy plan.    » read more »

Duke Energy Kentucky seeks 18% natural gas rate hike

Natural gas delivery rate change to be effective in 2010

July 1, 2009 -- CINCINNATI -- Duke Energy Kentucky announced today it has filed a request with the Kentucky Public Service Commission seeking a rate increase for natural gas delivery service of approximately $17.5 million, or 14 percent on total gas revenues, to be effective in early 2010.

For an average residential customer using 70 ccf (ccf is 100 cubic feet, the standard unit of measure) of natural gas per month, the monthly bill will increase 17.9 percent, from $75.15 to $88.59, based on Duke Energy Kentucky's current rates for delivery.    » read more »
