Massachusetts AG Announces Settlement With Worcester Company For Failing To Pay Workers
August 17, 2007 -- BOSTON – Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley has reached a settlement with a Worcester industrial insulation company and its owner for failing to pay two employees the prevailing wage rate. Daniel Valdez, of Worcester, the owner of Val Industrial Insulation Co., was ordered to pay approximately $32,000 to the affected workers. Additionally, Val Industrial will pay over $5,500 in civil penalties. The settlement agreement also debars Val Industrial from bidding on any new public works contracts for one year. » read more »
Trade Adjustment Assistance Approved for Maine Domtar Paper Workers

August 15, 2007 -- Washington, DC – Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today welcomed a tentative agreement between the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and BeechNut to allow for the continuation of production at the Canajoharie plant. In May, concerns were raised that a reduction in the number of federal USDA inspectors at the plant could impact the plant’s capacity for production and growth. August 16, 2007 -- BOSTON – Today, a Hampden County, Massachusetts Grand Jury returned indictments against an Ohio man and his company for issuing bad checks, and failing to pay wages to employees. Robert Burda, age 55, of Dublin, Ohio, and his company, Sondocatt Investments LLC, located in Chicopee, are charged with non-payment of wages (10 counts).
