Academy’s John Huston Lecture to Spotlight Controversial World War II Documentaries
Beverly Hills, CA, March 31, 2008 – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ John Huston Lecture on Documentary Film will acknowledge the lecture series’ namesake with a special screening of both of his controversial documentary classics from World War II, “San Pietro” and “Let There Be Light,” on Tuesday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Linwood Dunn Theater. Iran Condemns Anti-Islamic Dutch Film "Fitna"
28 March 2008 -- Iran's Foreign Ministry says European governments should move to stop the showing of a film by a far-right Dutch lawmaker that says the Koran incites violence.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mohammed Ali Hosseini, called the film anti-Islamic and anti-cultural.
The filmmaker, Geert Wilders, posted the film on his political party's Internet site on Thursday after Dutch television refused to broadcast it.
The film, called "Fitna," alternates pictures of terrorist attacks - including the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001 - with quotations from the Muslim holy book.
Wilders says one of his main points in making the film was a belief that rising Muslim immigration threatens democratic values in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe. » read more »
Academy to Screen Double Feature of Hitchcock Classics
March 26, 2008, Beverly Hills, CA – As part of its Gold Standard series and in conjunction with its Fourth Floor Gallery exhibition “Casting a Shadow: Creating the Alfred Hitchcock Film,” the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a double feature of Hitchcock films, “Shadow of a Doubt” and “Lifeboat,” on Friday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. New prints of both films from the Academy Film Archive will be screened.

Academy’s Nicholl Screenwriting Competition Now Underway

Coen Brothers Film 'No Country for Old Men' Wins Top Prize at Screen Actors Guild Awards
29 January 2008 -- The film No Country for Old Men won the top prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles Sunday, becoming the front-runner for the Oscars in February.
No Country, directed by Ethan and Joel Coen, took the award for best ensemble cast. The film also won the Directors Guild Award on Saturday and has eight Oscar nominations.
