Pixar's 'Ratatouille' Film Tops US Weekend Box Office

02 July 2007, Washington (By Ray McDonald) -- An animated rat feasted on last weekend's U.S. box office championship. Ratatouille, Pixar's computer-generated tale of a rodent who gets to cook in a French restaurant, topped the Stateside tally with $47.2 million.

This is the lowest opening figure for Disney's Pixar Animation unit since 1998, when A Bug's Life took in $33.3 million. The next five Pixar films, among them Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo, and last year's Cars, enjoyed opening weekends between $57.4 million and $70.5 million.    » read more »

Owen Wilson Pulls Out of Upcoming Movie with Ben Stiller

29 August 2007, Washington (By Ray McDonald) -- Owen Wilson has pulled out of his upcoming movie with Ben Stiller while he recovers from a reported suicide attempt.

Variety reports the 38-year-old actor has dropped out of Tropic Thunder, a DreamWorks comedy he was set to begin shooting in two to three weeks. The trade paper states Wilson's role would require a week's worth of filming. Stiller, who is producing and starring in the film, began shooting six weeks ago in Hawaii.    » read more »

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson Announces Game to be filmed in New Mexico

August 28, 2007 -- SANTA FE — New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson today announced that the Lakeshore Entertainment production, Game, starring Gerard Butler, will be shot in New Mexico.

The film will be shot for 55 days in and around Albuquerque from November 5 through February 5 and expects to hire approximately 182 New Mexico crew members.

The writer-director team is Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Richard Wright and Skip Williamson will produce, and local New Mexican David Rubin will executive produce.    » read more »

Film Director John Singleton Involved in Deadly Car Crash in LA

27 August 2007, Washington (By Ray McDonald) -- Movie director John Singleton was involved in a deadly crash in Los Angeles.

Police say the Oscar-nominated director of Boyz N The Hood was driving his Lexus sport utility vehicle on August 23 in the city's Jefferson Park neighborhood, when it struck and killed a female jaywalker who stepped in front of the car.

Police spokesman Officer Jason Lee said the 39-year-old John Singleton immediately stopped his car and waited for officers to arrive.    » read more »

'Superbad' Tops US Weekend Box Office Sales for 'Supergood' Second Week

Superbad, a story of three geeky friends' quest for alcohol for a high school party, retained last weekend's attendance title, taking in $18 million in ticket sales. Its 10-day total stands at $68.6 million.

'High School Musical 2' Movie Draws Unprecedented Cable TV Audience

21 August 2007 -- The Disney Channel now can claim the most-watched basic cable TV movie in broadcasting history.

High School Musical 2 drew an audience of 17.2 million for its August 17 premiere, more than doubling the viewership of its predecessor.

High School Musical attracted 7.7 million viewers in 2006.

The previous basic cable record-holder was CNN's 1993 debate on the North American Free Trade Agreement, which drew 16.8 million viewers. If kids were watching TV on August 17, they were probably watching High School Musical 2.    » read more »

'Superbad' Super Good at US Box Offices Over Weekend

20 August 2007 -- Superbad was super good over the weekend, as it claimed the U.S. box office championship.

The teen comedy from Sony, which featured no big-name stars, took in $31.2 million. It relegated the previous title-holder, Rush Hour 3, to second place with $21.8 million. Its two-week total now stands at $88.2 million.

The Warner Bros. sci-fi tale The Invasion, starring Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman, opened a disappointing fifth with $6 million.    » read more »
