Force Protection Industries, Inc., Ladson, S.C., is being awarded a not to exceed $91,549,216 contract modification under previously awarded contract (M67854-06-C-5162) to acquire 151 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles and associated spares.

This action consummates a requirement under a foreign military sales order with the United Kingdom, Ministry of Defence. Work will be performed in Ladson, S.C., with the first vehicle deliveries scheduled to begin in July 2008, and work is expected to be completed Jul. 2009. Funds for this action are provided by the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence and do not expire. The Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, Va., is the contracting activity.    » read more »

First US Soldier in Iraq Dies in New Mine-Resistant Vehicle (MRAP)

22 January 2008 -- US military officials say a roadside bomb attack in Iraq on Saturday killed an American soldier - the first fatality in new armored vehicles designed to protect against such bombs.

Officials said Tuesday, the soldier was killed and three others were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in the Arab Jabour area south of Baghdad. The soldiers were driving a "Mine Resistant Ambush Protected" vehicle - or MRAP - which has a V-shaped hull intended to deflect roadside bomb blasts.    » read more »

Bill includes funding for 15,000 MRAPs

November 9, 2007 -- Washington, DC – Legislation providing $459.3 billion in 2008 for defense programs – and $32.96 million for projects in Delaware –passed the U.S. House and Senate late yesterday.

10/8/2007 DAVENPORT, Iowa & NEW YORK (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Alcoa announced today that the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) has selected the company’s North American Rolled Products business to supply a need for aluminum armor plate to support the new MRAP armored vehicle program. MRAP vehicles are designed to survive IED (improvised explosive devise) and ambush attacks.
