South Hook Terminal will diversify the world’s energy portfolio and strengthen energy security in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe
LEATHERHEAD, United Kingdom -- May 12 marks the official inauguration of the South Hook3 Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) receiving terminal at Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, Wales. The ceremony takes place today in the presence of HM The Queen of the United Kingdom and His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, as well as other members of both royal families.
The South Hook terminal represents a technological milestone as a part of the Qatargas 2 LNG value chain project that will make additional supplies of cleaner-burning natural gas available to the UK and the rest of Europe. » read more »
New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson Reacts to Federal Court Victory on Otero Mesa
April 28, 2009 -- SANTA FE – New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson applauded the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeal’s unanimous decision today to require the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to take a hard look at the potential adverse impacts from oil and gas drilling on Otero Mesa.
“This is a major boost in our fight to protect one of New Mexico’s most ecologically valuable and unique places,” Governor Bill Richardson said. “I am pleased that the courts share our steadfast position that the public must have a voice in decisions affecting oil and gas leasing on Otero Mesa."
The Tenth Circuit Court upheld a previous ruling in federal district court that the BLM could not issue a new lease without further National Environmental Policy Act requirements. » read more »
Utah Natural Gas Producers Agree to Air Emission Reductions, Conservation Practices
April 17, 2009 -- WASHINGTON—Six energy companies, in three settlements, have agreed to install pollution control equipment at a cost of over $6 million to comply with the Clean Air Act at their natural gas producing facilities in the Uinta Basin, near Vernal, Utah, the Justice Department and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today. Calpine, GE Receive CA Public Utilities Commission Approval of Power Purchase Agreement for Planned Bay Area Power Plant
Hayward, California – April 17, 2009 – Calpine Corporation (NYSE:CPN) and GE (NYSE: GE) unit GE Energy Financial Services announced today that the California Public Utilities Commission has approved an amended Power Purchase Agreement for a state-of-the-art combined-cycle natural gas power plant, Russell City Energy Center, to be built in Hayward.
The agreement calls for Russell City Energy Company, LLC -- owned 65 percent by a Calpine Corporation affiliate and 35 percent by a GE Energy Financial Services affiliate – to sell its full 600-megawatt output to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E). In addition, PG&E will supply natural gas to the plant for the entire ten-year term of the contract, which is expected to begin in mid-year 2012. » read more »
