US Official Says Terror Safe-Havens in Pakistan Remain a Challenge
7 May 2008 -- A top counterterrorism official says the United States has had a mixed record of success in the fight against al-Qaida terrorists. President Bush's nominee to run the National Counterterrorism Center, Michael Leiter, said Pakistan could do more to crackdown on terror safe-havens.

Pakistani President Musharraf Rules Out UN Probe into Bhutto Murder

Bomb Blast Kills At Least 20 in Eastern Pakistan
10 January 2008 -- Pakistani police say at least 20 people, mostly policemen, have been killed in a suicide bomb attack in the eastern city of Lahore.
Officials say more than 60 other people were wounded.
Thursday's blast ripped through a busy square in front of the Lahore High Court where dozens of police had gathered ahead of a planned protest by the the city's lawyers.
Local Police Chief Malik Mohammad Iqbal told local media that all but one of the victims were policemen. » read more »
Benazir Bhutto's Husband Again Calls for UN Probe of Her Death
05 January 2008 -- The husband of slain Pakistani opposition leader and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto has again called for a United Nations investigation into her death.
In an opinion piece published in The Washington Post newspaper Saturday, Asif Ali Zardari said a probe conducted by Pakistan's government will have no credibility. As he put it, "one does not put the fox in charge of the henhouse."
Zardari also urged the United States and Britain to support his call for a U.N. investigation. » read more »

Pakistan: Suicide Bombing at Mosque in Northwest Pakistan Kills 50
21 December 2007 -- Pakistani officials say at least 50 people have been killed in a suicide bombing at a mosque in the restive northwest, during prayers for the Muslim Eid al-Adha festival.
Officials say dozens more were wounded in the blast that took place Friday at the mosque inside the residential compound of former interior minister, Aftab Sherpao, in Charsadda - a district in North West Frontier Province.
Local police say the attacker blew himself up in a row of worshippers behind Sherpao and his son. A spokesman said both father and son escaped unhurt. » read more »
