March 12, 2009 -- DEARBORN, MI – Today, Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle co-hosted the first Regional White House Forum on Health Reform with Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and Melody Barnes, director of the White House Domestic Policy Council. As a leader in making health care affordable and available to all, Governor Doyle was invited to lead the forum. This discussion is the beginning of a process of determining how to lower costs, improve quality for everyone, and expand coverage to all Americans.

“Across the country, health care costs are straining family budgets and hurting businesses both small and large,” Governor Doyle said. “This is a challenge that we have faced for generations, and it’s one I’ve worked hard on since taking office as governor. In President Barack Obama, we now have a great ally in the White House who in the past month has done more to advance the goal of providing quality, affordable health care to all Americans than has been done in the past decade. I look forward to working together in a bipartisan way, to come to consensus and give American families and businesses real reform that reduces costs and expands coverage.”

In a time when many states are cutting back on health care programs, Governor Doyle is moving forward on a bold plan to insure 98 percent of Wisconsin residents through simple, accessible, and affordable plans. Governor Doyle highlighted how Wisconsin’s efforts can serve as a model to national reform, and led the discussion between doctors, patients, providers, insurers, policy experts and health care advocates.

Wisconsin sent over 40 health care representatives to the conference to provide valuable input to the health reform dialogue.
